What to Know About Flu Season

Generic Image of Woman Receiving Flu ShotAs temperatures cool and fall activities increase, it’s a sure sign that flu season in North Carolina is right around the corner. But there are ways to protect yourself. Research shows that getting an annual flu vaccine is the best way to prevent more serious cases of the flu, especially for those people who are at higher risk.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as much as 8% of the U.S. population (more than 27 million people) are infected with the flu each year.

Who Should Get the Flu Vaccine?

Doctors recommend that everyone older than 6 months should get an annual vaccine. People at higher risk of developing serious flu-related complications are especially encouraged to get vaccinated.

Flu vaccines are widely available across the Sandhills region at local pharmacies, primary care clinics and walk-in clinics.

FirstHealth primary care and family medicine clinics offer flu vaccines to established patients, and FirstHealth Convenient Care clinics offer vaccines to patients without an appointment.
