ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – Walt Wood, a licensed physical therapy assistant with FirstHealth Rehabilitation, is the most recent winner of FirstHealth’s BEE Award, which recognizes employees who go above and beyond to fulfill the system’s core purpose – To Care for People.
Wood cares for patients at the rehab clinic at Moore Regional Hospital – Richmond and was nominated for the award by a colleague.
“Walt was making rounds on the floor for physical therapy and noticed a nurse having a difficult time with a dementia patient who was being verbally and physically aggressive. Walt walked the patient in the hallway and assisted to try and calm him,” the nomination letter said.
“Walt also helped the nurses hold the patient so they could safely administer medication to the patient, and he stayed until the patient was calm and lying back in bed.”
Heather Bassett, director of rehabilitation services at MRH-Richmond, said Wood is very deserving of the BEE Award.
“Walt is a team player and consistently provides compassionate, well-informed care to patients he works with,” Bassett said.
