PINEHURST, N.C. - Maribel Matochik, a nurse who cares for patients at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, is the most recent winner of the DAISY Award, which recognizes nurses who go above and beyond fulfilling FirstHealth’s core purpose – To Care for People.
This is the second time Matochik has been honored with the DAISY Award. Matochik was nominated by a patient who spent several days on the 3 Medical unit at Moore Regional.
“I’ve been privileged to meet and witness the nursing talents of many while I was at Moore Regional,” the patient wrote.
“But when I met Maribel, I met someone whose life mission was to be the best nurse possible. Maribel embodies all the characteristics of a special nurse: attention to detail, endless energy, a sense of humor, patient advocacy, empathy, compassion and, of course, all the vital processes and knowledge involved in being a nurse.”
Leigh Anna DeBerry, Matochik’s manager, said that Maribel is devoted to delivering exceptional, patient-centered care.
“Maribel is a wonderful nurse who combines clinical excellence with genuine compassion,” Deberry said. “She not only provides exceptional care but also makes patients and families feel seen, heard and valued during some of life’s most difficult moments.”
About the DAISY Award
The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses was established by the Daisy Foundation, a not-for-profit, based in Glen Ellen, Calif. The foundation was started by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, a little-known but not uncommon auto-immune disease.
The care Barnes and his family received from nurses inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patients’ families.
Today, there are more than 2,800 health care facilities in all 50 states and 17 other countries honoring their nurses with the DAISY Award.
