Calm and Compassionate: MRH Nurse Kristen Metzbrown Recognized with DAISY Award

Kristen MetzbrownPINEHURST, N.C. – Kristen Metzbrown, a registered nurse who works in the emergency department at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, is the most recent winner of FirstHealth’s DAISY Award, which recognizes nurses who go above and beyond to fulfill the system’s core purpose – To Care for People.

DAISY Award Recognition for Exceptional Nursing Care

Metzbrown was nominated by the mother of a patient who came to Moore Regional last fall. The parent praised Kristen’s exceptional leadership and compassion.

“From the moment we arrived, Kristen set the tone for a calm, controlled and organized response during a very stressful situation. Kristen moved with confidence and purpose, making sure everything was ready for my son and the team before we even stepped into the room,” the parent wrote.

“She communicated clearly, kept the process smooth and made sure our family understood what was going on. What stood out even more was the way she balanced everything happening in the department. I could see the level of coordination and the amount of chaos she was managing outside our room, yet she kept full control of it. Despite the workload, she still came in to check on us, make sure we were comfortable and ensure we had what we needed. She did the same for other patients and families, never once showing frustration or rushing through anyone’s concerns.”

Offering Compassion in the Emergency Department

Mekel Bergschnieder, MSN, R.N., NE-BE, CEN, the administrative director of Moore Regional Hospital’s emergency department, said Kristen consistently delivers exceptional care regardless of what is happening in the emergency department.

“Kristen consistently demonstrates compassion in action. No matter how chaotic the environment is, she remains calm, approachable and focused on making others feel cared for and supported,” Bergschneider said.

“Her kindness toward patients, families and coworkers alike reflects the very best of nursing.”

About the DAISY Award

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses was established by the Daisy Foundation, a not-for-profit, based in Glen Ellen, Calif. The foundation was started by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, a little-known but not uncommon auto-immune disease.

The care Barnes and his family received from nurses inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patients’ families.

Today, there are more than 2,800 health care facilities in all 50 states and 17 other countries honoring their nurses with the DAISY Award.

FirstHealth of the Carolinas, which includes Moore Regional Hospital, Moore Regional Hospital – Richmond, Moore Regional Hospital – Hoke and Montgomery Memorial Hospital, is proud to celebrate Erin and all nurses who make a difference in the lives of those we serve every day.
