RAEFORD, N.C. – Heather McColl, a registered nurse at Moore Regional Hospital-Hoke, is the most recent winner of FirstHealth’s DAISY Award, which recognizes employees who go above and beyond to fulfill the system’s core purpose – To Care for People.
Heroic Emergency Care Recognized by FirstHealth
A fellow team member nominated McColl after a particularly heroic display of care in the emergency department. According to the team member, McColl was at the charge desk in the ED when she realized that a vehicle collision paged out on the Hoke EMS scanner was close by.
“Heather and the swarm nurse heard the call, proceeded outside to investigate and found a two-vehicle collision, with one vehicle overturned in front of the hospital entrance,” they said. “Heather gloved up and approached the scene to assist, recognizing that there were people in need of help.”
After a rapid triage of the situation, McColl confirmed that all the occupants from the vehicles were stable.
Experience and Training Make the Difference
“She used her experience not only as an ED RN but also her previous role and training as a paramedic to provide excellent and heroic care,” the team member said.
Her manager, Kathleen Klemish, R.N., said that her commitment to providing quality care is what makes her an outstanding employee and team member.
“Heather is a dedicated and skilled member of our ED team,” said Klemish. “Consistently demonstrating excellence and prioritizing the delivery of quality emergency care, Heather is beyond deserving of the DAISY Award.”
About the DAISY Award
The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses was established by the Daisy Foundation, a not-for-profit, based in Glen Ellen, Calif. The foundation was started by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, a little-known but not uncommon auto-immune disease.
The care Barnes and his family received from nurses inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patients’ families.
Honoring Nurses Around the World
Today, there are more than 2,800 health care facilities in all 50 states and 17 other countries honoring their nurses with the DAISY Award.
FirstHealth of the Carolinas, which includes Moore Regional Hospital, Moore Regional Hospital – Richmond, Moore Regional Hospital – Hoke and Montgomery Memorial Hospital, is proud to celebrate Erin and all nurses who make a difference in the lives of those we serve every day.
