FirstHealth Recognizes Shari Anderson, R.N., with DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Care

DAISY Nurse Shari AndersonPINEHURST, N.C. – FirstHealth of the Carolinas is proud to announce that Labor and Delivery nurse Shari Anderson, R.N., has received the DAISY Award, a national honor celebrating nurses who go above and beyond to provide compassionate, patient-centered care.

Anderson cares for patients at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst and was nominated by two patients who praised her for making their experiences top-notch.

“Shari was with me her whole shift and during my delivery. She never left my side, not even to eat her lunch,” one patient wrote. “She was supportive and helped calm my nerves as a first-time mom. She kept the room so calm and positive.”

The patient praised Anderson for advocating for her and said she was “definitely called” to be a labor and delivery nurse. “You don’t find many nurses like her,” the patient wrote.

A second nomination came from a patient who delivered her fifth child at Moore Regional.

“Shari is the most wonderful labor and delivery nurse I’ve ever had the privilege of meeting. Even though I was giving birth to my fifth baby, this was my first experience with an induction,” she said.

“Shari listened to my wishes for the most natural and hands-off experience possible. Because of Shari, the birth of my daughter went from an unexpected and stressful situation to one where I only have joyful memories. Shari is truly a gift and I am grateful that she was my nurse.”

Jonna Hunter, DNP, R.N., CENP, Administrative Director of Women & Children’s Services, said Anderson always advocates for her patients.

“Shari provides the specialized knowledge and skills needed to care for a laboring mom and baby, as well as the emotional support and advocacy our mothers and families need for this life-changing event,” Hunter said. “Shari respects our mother's wishes and responds positively to all birth plans.”

About the DAISY Award

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses was established by the Daisy Foundation, a not-for-profit, based in Glen Ellen, Calif. The foundation was started by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, a little-known but not uncommon auto-immune disease.

The care Barnes and his family received from nurses inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patients’ families.

Today, there are more than 2,800 health care facilities in all 50 states and 17 other countries honoring their nurses with the DAISY Award.

FirstHealth of the Carolinas, which includes Moore Regional Hospital, Moore Regional Hospital – Richmond, Moore Regional Hospital – Hoke and Montgomery Memorial Hospital, is proud to celebrate Shari and all nurses who make a difference in the lives of those we serve every day.
