Dennis Davis Recognized with BEE Award for Compassionate Care at MRH–Richmond

BEE Award Winner Dennis DavisROCKINGHAM, N.C., – FirstHealth of the Carolinas is proud to recognize Dennis Davis, registration coordinator at Moore Regional Hospital (MRH)–Richmond, as the latest recipient of the BEE Award.

The BEE Award honors team members who go above and beyond in demonstrating empathy, compassion and extraordinary service—qualities that support and enhance the patient care experience.

Davis was nominated by the mother of a young patient who entered the emergency department during a stressful and frightening moment. The mother shared that Davis immediately recognized her distress, reassured her that her child was in the right place, and focused on getting the patient the urgent care she needed.

“Dennis just doesn’t know what he did to my soul right then and there,” she wrote. “I saw God show up in his image to help calm my nerves. I saw humanity show up today. The ER might get a bad rap sometimes, but today I saw a different light. Thank you, Dennis!”

For Davis, the moment was about focusing on what truly matters. “It was a busy day, but that doesn’t mean people don’t deserve the individualized care they need and deserve,” he said. “The mother of the young patient was worried about her car, parking,—but I just told her, ‘Let’s get your daughter taken care of first and foremost and we’ll worry about the other stuff later.’ I wanted to help calm her and help her focus.”

Davis joined FirstHealth four years ago, starting in the cafeteria at MRH-Richmond before transitioning into registration. Now serving as a charge coordinator three days a week, Davis says he finds deep meaning in his role. “I love coming to work every day. People used to tell me I looked happier and lighter in this role—and they were right. I’m grateful to have a direct impact in caring for our patients and families.”

Davis was honored and humbled to receive the BEE Award. “I was in a state of shock. I was just carrying out my job in the caring and compassionate way I always strive to do. As my mother-in-law always says, it doesn’t matter if you’re black, blue, green or polka dot—we should always be willing to help others. That’s how I try to live every day.”

Davis is the first registration team member at MRH–Richmond to receive the BEE Award. “I may be the first, but I know I won’t be the last because of the care and commitment we have on our team,” he said.

Lauren Drakeford, assistant director of registration services at MRH-Richmond, praised his actions as a true reflection of FirstHealth’s core purpose: To Care for People. “What stands out about Dennis is his remarkable empathy and compassion. In this situation, he stayed calm, communicated clearly and made a meaningful difference in that mother’s and child’s experience. He exemplified patient-centered care at its finest.”
