Select Topic

The FDA approved non-surgical weight-loss solution ORBERA™ is now being offered through FirstHealth Bariatrics. A comprehensive, two-part program starts with a soft yet durable balloon that fills space in your stomach and reinforces proper portion control, which will help you maintain your weight over time.  The balloon is temporary and placed in your stomach for six months.

Once the gastric balloon is in place, our team of experts that includes a physician, dietician and behavioral health coach will help provide a customized program to fit your needs to optimize success.  Your coaching will continue even after the balloon is removed at six months for a total of 12 months.

The two-part system is designed to provide effective, motivating results and the insight you need to help establish healthy behaviors to keep the weight off in the long run.  ORBERA™ provides 3.1 times the weight loss than diet and exercise alone.  Hundreds of thousands of the balloons have been placed worldwide.

The Procedure:  Placement and removal

ORBERA™ is a non-surgical procedure done under a sedative.  The thin and deflated balloon is placed into the stomach.  It is then filled with saline until it’s about the size of a grapefruit.  The procedure typically takes about 20-30 minutes so you can generally go home the very same day.

At six months, the balloon is removed the same way it was placed.  Through a non-surgical procedure done under a mild sedative, it is deflated first then removed.

What to Expect

Weight-loss is rapid, with the majority of the weight typically occurring in the first three months of treatment.  Your adjustments to your eating habits and continued efforts to stay active will greatly influence your results.

Who qualifies for ORBERA™

  • Be an adult
  • Must have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 to 40
  • Be willing to participate in medically supervised program

Procedure Cost and Coverage

ORBERA is not covered by health insurance.  The placement/removal procedures, device and the full 12 months of coaching and support costs $6,950.
