  • Safe disposal of used needles and hypodermic syringes.
  • New needles, hypodermic syringes and other injection supplies free of charge.
  • Educational materials on: overdose prevention, prevention of HIV and Hepatitis C; treatment options for mental health issues and substance use disorder.
  • Access to Naloxone kits.
  • Individual support through NC Certified Peer Support Specialist discussing possible paths to recovery.

A safer Syringe initiative is a project of the NC Division of Public Health to increase access to clean needles, hypodermic syringes and other injection supplies, to facilitate the safe disposal of used needles and provide information about harm reduction and preventative health. The Safer Syringe initiative began after the syringe exchange programs were legalized in NC in January 2016.
