Wound Care & Hyperbarics

At FirstHealth Wound Care & Hyperbarics, our medical specialists are trained to treat all types of wounds.

The first step in the road to recovery of a non-healing wound is an examination by our Medical Director. Next, one of our specially trained clinicians will create a treatment plan, designed just for you, where all caregivers – from specialty surgeons to therapists and family members – are included. 

The plan is communicated to the primary care physician, who continues to treat and underlying conditions and provides overall care for the patient. This treatment approach has been designed to complement the primary or referring physician’s care, not replace it.

When a wound from an accident, underlying disease or infection isn’t healing properly, appropriate care can save life and limb. 

FirstHealth offers highly specialized care at our Wound Care & Hyperbarics located at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Moore Regional Hospital - Hoke and Moore Regional Hospital – Richmond. All facilities offer highly trained wound care staff and are designed to monitor, manage and treat chronic non-healing wounds.

Wounds that resist healing can lead to complications, including infection, sepsis, hospitalization, deformities or amputation. The Wound Care Centers provide diagnosis and treatment for a number of chronic or non-healing wounds including:

  • Pressure ulcers
  • Arterial ulcers
  • Venous wounds
  • Diabetic wounds
  • Surgical wounds
  • Trauma wounds
  • Radiation tissue damage
  • Gangrene
  • Complex soft tissue wounds
  • Lymphedema

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Hyperbaric oxygen chambers are a new technology used to speed the healing of wounds. The chamber contains concentrated, specially pressurized oxygen. By lying in this designed chamber and breathing normally, the concentration of oxygen in the blood is increased. This makes more oxygen available to damaged body tissues, which helps the tissues repair themselves.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy can be used for the treatment of difficult medical problems such as:

  • Chronic problem wounds, including diabetic foot wounds
  • Compromised grafts and flaps
  • Radiation injury
  • Chronic refractory Osteomyelitis
  • Acute ischemias
  • Necrotizing soft tissue infections
  • Gas gangrene
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning
