An interventional gastroenterologist specializing in Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) uses endoscopy to stage and diagnose malignancies of pancreatic, esophageal, gastric and rectal cancers.

Overview
The endoscopic procedure, which is performed under sedation, allows imaging and tissue samples to be obtained without the need for open of laparoscopic surgery.
EUS, as well as PET/CT and Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) also allows nonsurgical staging of lung cancers.
EUS has other uses including diagnosing early chronic pancreatitis.
