Million Hearts Initiative at FirstHealth
FirstHealth of the Carolinas is launching the Million Hearts Initiative with a focus on:
- Community Outreach
- Cholesterol Management
- Blood Pressure Management
- Tobacco Cessation
According to the 2022 Community Health Needs Assessment, heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in the region.
Every 36 seconds, an adult in the United States dies from heart disease. These are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, and friends—all gone because of a disease that is largely preventable.
FirstHealth of the Carolinas is joining the Million Hearts® campaign to help save lives and protect lives impacted by heart disease and stroke. Million Hearts® is a national initiative co-led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Million Hearts has a goal of preventing one million heart attacks and strokes over the next five years. Million Hearts® prioritized strategies for building healthy communities and optimizing care through a committed focus on specific populations experiencing inequities. A 20% improvement in key indicators would translate to one million fewer events over a five-year period.
