Two-Factor Authentication: Added Security for Your MyChart Account

Starting May 11, 2025, all patients will be required to use two-factor authentication (2FA) when logging into MyChart. This added layer of protection helps ensure your health information stays safe and secure and is only accessible to you.

What is Two-Factor Authentication?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a security feature that requires two steps to verify your identity:

  1. Step One: Enter your MyChart username and password.
  2. Step Two: Enter a one-time code sent to your mobile phone, email or authenticator app like Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator.

This simple, extra step helps confirm it’s really you logging in and keeps your private health information protected.

Why is This Important?

Your medical records contain sensitive information.  Two-factor authentication helps:

  • Protect against unauthorized access, even if someone gets your password
  • Reduce the risk of identity theft or data breaches
  • Meet industry best practices for digital security

What You Need to Do

To use 2FA, you’ll need:

  • A valid phone number or email address linked to your MyChart account
  • Access to that device or inbox when logging in

You’ll only need to complete 2FA once per device or browser, unless you clear your cookies or switch devices.
