Specialized Rehabilitation Services

FirstHealth physical therapy services can help ease your pain and improve your quality of life. If you are recovering from surgery, or if an injury is limiting your daily activities, a physical therapy program can help you move freely again and get back to the things you enjoy. We offer physical therapy at six clinics in the Sandhills area and on an inpatient basis.

Our physical therapists will work with you to develop a custom plan of care to meet your specific needs and goals. At FirstHealth, you will have access to the latest technology and work with staff who actively pursue continued education and new therapies. We offer a variety of specialized programs, from aquatic therapy to dry needling.

Active Release Therapy (ART)

Active release therapy can treat problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves. This therapy works with the body's soft tissue to relieve tension which can develop as a result of overuse or repetitive use. ART involves identifying, isolating and targeting the affected area to break up scar tissue. Once scar tissue is broken up, blood supply will increase in the affected area and speed up the healing process.

ART can treat a variety of issues, including:

  • Back pain
  • IT band syndrome
  • Shoulder pain
  • Knee problems
  • Surgery scars
  • Tennis elbow
Aquatic Therapy

If exercise is painful for you, water therapy can be a great alternative. Many of our clinics have pools for aquatic therapy for patients suffering from pain and weakness. In water, the pull of gravity on the body is not as strong, so exercise may be more comfortable. Benefits include increased range of motion, decreased pain, reduced joint stress and more.

Common conditions we treat with aquatic therapy:

  • Arthritis
  • Balance disorders
  • Back pain and other chronic pain conditions
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Post-surgery conditions
  • Sports injuries
  • Stroke
  • Neurological disorders
Concussion Rehabilitation

If you've recently experienced a blow or bump to the head, our team can help with concussion screening and therapy. Our staff can also address any balance issues, dizziness and vision tracking issues that may occur during recovery. Physical therapists can also help athletes maintain their conditioning while they heal.

Golf for Life

Golf for Life is designed to help you improve form and prevent injury so you can safely play golf - for life. Our therapists will help you became aware of your body's limitations and teach you specific exercises to improve your game.

Dry Needling

Dry needling uses a thin needle to treat muscle knots, also known as trigger points. The needle is inserted into a muscle's trigger point to get a twitch response, which relaxes the trigger point and loosens tight tissue.  This helps reduce pain. Dry needling can help with chronic headaches and pain in the neck, back, knee, arm, shoulder or leg.

Pelvic Floor Therapy

Pelvic floor therapy treats weakness, tightness and dysfunction of pelvic floor muscles in both men and women. You may benefit from pelvic floor physical therapy if you experience:

  • Accidental leakage of urine when sneezing, laughing or coughing
  • Bowel leakage
  • Chronic constipation
  • Frequent or sudden need to urinate
  • Pain in the pelvic region
  • Pregnancy-related issues such as back pain, abdominal seperation (diastasis recti) and sciatica
  • Scar tissue
  • Sexual dysfunction
