Non-Surgical Facial Treatments and Med Spa Services

Non-surgical facial treatments have become an increasingly popular choice for those seeking to enhance their appearance without the risks or recovery time of traditional surgery. These treatments, such as injectables, chemical peels, or laser therapies, offer a convenient way to achieve noticeable improvements with minimal downtime. One of the main advantages is their ability to provide natural, customizable results, allowing for subtle enhancements that can be tailored to individual needs.

Injectables

Botox®

Botox® Cosmetic is a non-surgical prescription medication used to improve moderate to severe frown lines. It is FDA approved for treatment of the frown lines between the eyebrows in adults 18 to 65 years of age. It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. Botox® helps to improve the wrinkles and furrows that develop from squinting, concentrating, frowning, and looking surprised.

Botox® works by temporarily blocking the signal between the nerve and the muscle. The muscle is no longer able to contract thus relaxing and softening the overlying wrinkles. Studies show that when Botox® treatment is done on a regular basis, the muscles learn not to contract, and less Botox® is needed to achieve the same results. Moreover, regular Botox® treatments early in wrinkle formation can prevent more severe lines and wrinkles.

Botox® is proven to improve dynamic wrinkles and creases. Within a week of injection, improvements become obvious and continue to improve up to a month.

Dysport

Dysport® is a neuromodulator that works in much the same way as Botox®. Dysport® is a local muscle relaxant (or neuromuscular blocking agent) adapted from the botulinum toxin type-A and is used in both aesthetic and therapeutic indications.

Dysport® is indicated for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines (frown lines or 11s) associated with procerus and corrugator muscle activity in adult patients less than 65 years of age.

Facial Fillers

Facial Fillers come in all types and, depending on the site of injection, each one offers distinct advantages. In general, fillers are used within the face to improve deep wrinkle lines or folds that arise as we age. They are therefore useful in giving us a more youthful appearance.

We will create a customized plan, using an array of products to help patients reach their aesthetic goal. Facial fillers can help with some of the following: Smile lines, frown lines, corners of the mouth, thin lips, vertical lines above the lip, cheek definition, earlobe plumping, under eye circles and more.

Intense Pulsed Light

Intense pulsed light (IPL) photorejuvenation is a new non-invasive process that reduces freckles, age and sun spots, small facial veins, enlarged pores and irregular pigmentation without damaging the outer layers of the dermis. It is so gentle that there is virtually no recovery time – you can even apply makeup and return to work the same day of treatment.

An intense light is applied in a series of gentle pulses over the treatment area. Without damaging the skin, the light penetrates through the skin and is absorbed by the abnormal pigmentation and broken blood vessels. The heat causes damage to the targeted area and the body begins its healing process as it releases the pigment. The area will darken before it flakes off or the body reabsorbs it.

When the pulse of light is delivered, the sensation is similar to a snap of a rubber band. Anesthesia is not required.

Expect to see a gradual decrease in hyperpigmentation that is the result of sun damaged skin and a decrease in broken blood vessels. The results will be a smoother, more vibrant appearance. The usual treatment time is five procedures, four weeks apart.

Skin Resurfacing

Ablative resurfacing refers to one of three procedures: Dermabrasion, Chemical Peel, or Dermaplaning. All three procedures attempt to achieve the same goal—younger appearing and enhanced skin tone of the face, neck, chest, or extremities. Resurfacing can be done for the fine wrinkles that appear with aging, smoking, or familial inheritance. It is also extremely successful to correct skin changes caused by acne and darkened spots from sun exposure.

At least 2 weeks prior to the procedure, patients will be asked to begin two topical medications (hydroquinone and tretinoin) to enhance the results. All patients on Accutane, will need to be off this medication for at least 6 months prior to the procedure. This procedure usually takes 30 minutes to 1 hour. Depending on the modality used, the procedure can be done with conscious sedation or general anesthesia.

How long does Botox® last?

Botox® results typically last 3 to 4 months for most people. However, the exact duration can vary based on factors like a person's metabolism, the area treated, dosage amount used and consistency of treatments.

Some people may see results fade in an early as 2 months while others may maintain effects up to 6 months.

Do non-surgical options replace surgery?

Non-surgical facial treatments are a great option for addressing mild to moderate signs of aging, such as fine lines, early sagging, or uneven skin tone, offering natural results with little to no downtime. For more advanced concerns, like significant skin laxity or deep wrinkles, surgical procedures provide longer-lasting and more dramatic improvements. Many people choose non-surgical treatments to delay surgery or to maintain results afterward, making the two approaches complementary rather than interchangeable.

Are treatments safe for all skin types?

Yes, most non-surgical facial treatments are safe for all skin types, but the best option depends on your unique skin tone and concerns. Injectables like Botox and fillers are safe for everyone since they work beneath the skin’s surface. Treatments such as chemical peels and lasers can be effective but may require adjustments for darker skin tones to reduce the risk of pigmentation changes. Microneedling, radiofrequency, and gentle facials are generally safe across all skin types when performed by a qualified professional. A personalized consultation is the best way to ensure your treatment is both safe and effective.
