Conditions We Treat

We provide comprehensive assessment and treatment of hearing problems for adults, teens and children. We treat sensorineural hearing loss, the most common type of hearing loss, and conductive hearing loss, which occurs when there is a blockage that prevents sound waves from reaching the inner ear.

  • Hearing Loss

When to See an Audiologist

Hearing impairment is a common disability that affects more than 250 million people worldwide. In the United States the most common cause of hearing impairment is age-related. Age-related hearing loss is permanent.

The consequences of hearing loss on daily life are profound, impacting social, functional and psychological well-being. Mild hearing loss can impair the ability to distinguish high-pitched sounds including voices. In children, hearing loss can affect the child’s speech, language and social development.

About one third of Americans between the ages of 65 – 75 have some degree of hearing loss. 50% of people over age 75 have hearing loss. Signs and symptoms typically begin gradually between the ages of 65-75.

Treatment depends on the cause of hearing loss. You should consider seeing an audiologist if you experience symptoms like difficulty hearing conversations, especially in noisy environments, frequent requests for repetition, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), or dizziness and balance issues. Hearing loss often develops gradually, so even subtle changes—like turning up the TV volume or feeling that others are mumbling—can be early signs. Audiologists also help with earwax buildup, hearing aid fittings, and managing conditions like tinnitus or auditory processing disorders. If you work in noisy environments, are over 60, or haven’t had a hearing test in several years, a routine checkup is recommended. Early evaluation and intervention can improve communication, prevent further hearing deterioration, and enhance overall quality of life.
