Certified Physician Assistant Joins FirstHealth Urogynecology

| Date Posted: 8/3/2020

HAMLET – Certified physician assistant Jaclyn Bates has joined FirstHealth Urogynecology. She joins Janet Harris-Hicks, M.D., FACOG, FPMRS, at the practice located at 108 Endo Lane, Suite 1, in Hamlet, N.C.

“We are thrilled to have Jaclyn join our team,” said Dr. Harris-Hicks. “Her experience and passion for women’s health care will help to ensure our Urogynecology patients continue to receive the very best possible care.”

Originally from Emerald Isle, N.C., Bates attended the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill where she earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports science. It was during her time at UNC that she became interested in practicing medicine.

“One of my counselors at UNC suggested I look into the field of medicine,” Bates recalled. “I acted on her advice and became a certified nursing assistant and worked at UNC Hospitals. I realized very quickly that I wanted to further my education in medicine.”

Bates went on to earn a Master of Medical Science from Methodist University in Fayetteville, N.C. and has practiced as a certified physician assistant in primary care and urgent care.

She looks forward to bringing her experience in primary care, combined with her undergraduate training in exercise sports science, to treat patients at FirstHealth Urogynecology with a focus on “whole-being” care.

“I hope to provide my patients with guidance on lifestyle changes and physical therapy, along with medicine when appropriate and surgical care at the expert hands of Dr. Harris-Hicks to help improve the quality of life for my patients,” she said. “Urogynecology is such a fascinating field full of new opportunities to care for women.”

Bates and her husband are proud parents to 2-year-old Lydia and 4-year-old Barrett and their beloved dog, Buckley. When she’s not caring for patients, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, exercising and gardening.
