New Physician Joining FirstHealth Family Medicine – Seven Lakes; Liffrig to Direct Convenient Care, Occupational Medicine

PINEHURST, NC – FirstHealth of the Carolinas is welcoming a new family medicine physician to its Seven Lakes practice in late July.
Tilak Pokharel, M.D., brings 14 years of experience with him to the Sandhills and most recently worked as a family medicine physician in Quincy, Illinois.
With Pokharel’s arrival, James Liffrig, M.D., will transition into a new role as medical director for FirstHealth Convenient Care and FirstHealth Occupational Medicine. Dr. Liffrig’s final clinic day will be in late August, and he will work with Dr. Pokharel to smoothly transition patients.
“We’re very excited for Dr. Pokharel to join the FirstHealth family, and we are confident he will serve patients well in Seven Lakes,” Dan Barnes, D.O., president of FirstHealth Physician Group, said. “We’re also sad to see Dr. Liffrig leave Family Medicine, but we know he will continue to help FirstHealth achieve its purpose of caring for people in his new position with Convenient Care and Occupational Medicine.”
Pokharel studied medicine at Manipal College of Medicinal Sciences in Nepal.
Before coming to the United States, Pokharel served as a medical officer at a hospital in Dhading, Nepal and worked as a primary care physician on the Marshall Islands.
“I had a desire to work in medicine because I wanted to help people achieve and maintain their optimal health. I strive to treat my patients and provide care like I would to my own family member,” Pokharel said. “I look forward to joining the FirstHealth family and learning more about all that the Sandhills has to offer.”
In his free time, Pokharel enjoys traveling, cooking, playing soccer and spending time with family.
