Celebrating Together While Apart: FirstHealth Cancer Survivors Day Goes Virtual
| Date Posted: 5/13/2020
PINEHURST, N.C. – Cancer survivors throughout the Sandhills will gather together – while staying apart – for the 33rd annual National Cancer Survivors Day.
FirstHealth of the Carolinas will be honoring survivors in new ways on June 7, 2020 through a digital celebration. There will be yoga. There will be singing. And there will be plenty of smiling faces of cancer survivors from across the area.
The celebration will begin early on Sunday with an 8:30 a.m. yoga and meditation session hosted by Cinnamon Leblanc, a cancer exercise specialist with FirstHealth Fitness.
During the afternoon, FirstHealth of the Carolinas CEO Mickey Foster will provide an update on the progress of FirstHealth’s state-of-the-art cancer center, which will change cancer treatment forever in the Sandhills.
Foster will be followed at 3 p.m. by Pam Hudson and Rachel Shell, who will go live on FirstHealth’s Facebook page to discuss the healing power of music. Shell, who hosts music therapy sessions throughout the area, will also be singing and may even take a request or two.
We will close the day with a special scrapbook video dedicated to survivors from around the area. It will include photos of survivors and words of inspiration from some of FirstHealth’s Cancer Care team. Survivors should send their photos to CancerSurvivorsDay@firsthealth.org and include their name, where they live, the type of cancer and years of survivorship.
