SANFORD - FirstHealth of the Carolinas recently welcomed certified personal trainer and nutrition coach Paul Craig to FirstHealth Fitness – Sanford.
Craig earned his bachelor in exercise and sports science, with a minor in physical education and health education, from Methodist University. He holds an M.S. in exercise science, with a concentration in nutrition and wellness, from Liberty University.
“I’m a big proprietor of learning, so I plan to continue to educate myself on the human condition, and hopefully make a positive impact in the FirstHealth community,” he says.
Prior to joining FirstHealth, Craig served 12 years in the United States Army as a senior human resources manager. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. He says his transition into the world of fitness was seamless, as he was constantly involved in physical activity in the army.
“I am fascinated with the body and all of the physiological processes that make us humans function,” he says. “Fortunately, I had an opportunity to expand my career beyond the military, so I chose to study exercise science. Using this knowledge, and helping people attain their personal goals, is a passion I’ve always had, dating back to my time in the military.”
Originally from Asheville, North Carolina, he relocated to Sanford while in active service and decided to remain in the area. Craig says aside from his main passion - fitness - he is an avid hiker and enjoys coaching his son’s youth soccer team.
He and his wife Shelby have two sons, Cameron and Dylan, along with two dogs: a five-pound Chihuahua who runs the household and a 200-pound Great Dane.
FirstHealth Fitness offers numerous services and programs, including personal training and group exercise, at its medically-based centers in Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Sanford, Richmond, Raeford and Troy.
