Moore Regional Hospital to Host Annual Women’s Series

| Date Posted: 4/1/2019

PINEHURST – Join FirstHealth of the Carolinas for two nights of women’s health education featuring some of the area’s most knowledgeable health care providers.

Physicians from such medical specialties as behavioral health, neurosurgery and family medicine will be featured between two evenings at Moore Regional’s Annual “Women’s Series.”

The sessions will be held on May 14 and May 16, and will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Clara McLean House located at 20 FirstVillage Drive in Pinehurst, and will conclude by 7:30 p.m. The series is free and open to the public and dinner will be provided.

Topics for the session on Tuesday, May 14 will include:

  • Meredith Stanton, M.D. – Women & Stress
  • Melanie J. Blacker, M.D. – Stroke Awareness

“I am excited to present to women about the importance of brain health and stroke awareness,” says Dr. Blacker with FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. “One in five women in the United States will have a stroke in her lifetime, yet most women do not know their risk of having a stroke.  It’s crucial as women that we understand what a stroke looks like, whether we are at risk for one (including some risk factors unique to women), and what to do if we suspect we or someone we know is having one.”

Topics for the session on Thursday, May 16 will include:

  • Ann Marie Richards, M.D. – Food is Medicine
  • Cynthia Z. Africk, M.D. – Spine Health

“I am looking forward to participating in this year’s event,” says Dr. Africk with FirstHealth Neurosurgery. “Spinal fractures are common as we age and even more common in women.  Thus, it is important to stay ahead of the game with a healthy spine. My presentation will provide tips, as well as do’s and don’ts for spine health.”

Registration is required for both evenings. To register, visit www.firsthealth.org/rsvp or call (800) 213-3284 and specify the Moore Regional Hospital Women’s Series.
