ROCKINGHAM – Health care professionals from FirstHealth of the Carolinas will share information of particular interest for women during FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital – Richmond’s (MRH – Richmond) Annual Women’s Series.

Physicians from gynecologic oncology and behavioral health will speak on the importance of women’s health in the two-night series.

The series will be held on April 9 and April 23, will both begin at 5:30 p.m., and will be held in the MRH – Richmond cafeteria. The programs are free and open to the public and refreshments will be provided.

The Tuesday, April 9 topic is “Understanding, Preventing and Recognizing Gynecologic Cancers,” and will include a presentation from Michael Sundborg, M.D., board certified gynecologic oncologist with FirstHealth Gynecologic Oncology.

The Tuesday, April 23 topic is “Women & Stress,” and will include presentations from Meredith Stanton, M.D., board certified psychiatrist with FirstHealth Behavioral Services, and Kenyett Moody, R.N., program coordinator with FirstHealth Intensive Outpatient Services.

“I am very excited to discuss ‘Women and Stress’ at this year’s Women’s Series,” says Dr. Stanton. “My hope is that this presentation will empower women to feel more comfortable discussing their anxiety and depression with their doctor.  Stress can affect women differently than men, and depression and anxiety are more common in women.”

The Annual Women’s Series is sponsored by the FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital Foundation which helps to provide support for residents of Richmond County.

“Women are the epicenter of the family and have more pressure to be able to do it all by working, taking care of children and their homes,” says Cindy Goodman, chair, FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital Foundation. “By attending the program, I hope that women will become more aware of their own health, and that attendees will leave with ideas about self-care.”

Registration is required for both evenings. To register, call (800) 213-3284 and specify registration for the Richmond Women’s Series.
