NURSE OF THE YEAR-Samantha Talley, R.N., has been named Nurse of the Year by Sandhills Emergency Physicians. A Montgomery County native, Talley has been an emergency department nurse at Montgomery Memorial Hospital since 2015. The nurse of the year is chosen from among all of the emergency department nurses in the four FirstHealth hospitals staffed by the Sandhills Emergency Physicians specialty practice—FirstHealth Moore Regional in Pinehurst, FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Richmond in Rockingham, FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Hoke in Raeford, in addition to FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital in Troy. According to Daniel Goodberry, M.D., emergency medicine physician with Sandhills Emergency Physicians, the nurse of the year award is based on multiple criteria including patient care, professionalism, work ethic, demonstrating continuous growth and self-improvement. “The standards are set high, and several quality nominees were selected this year,” he said. “It is a privilege to work with people of this caliber, and this award was established to show our recognition of this fact.” Pictured with Talley (center) is (from left) Jan Scholl, R.N., chief nursing officer at Montgomery Memorial Hospital and Daniel Goodberry, M.D., Sandhills Emergency Physicians.
