Speaker: Thomas Belhorn, M.D., UNC - Chapel Hill School of Medicine
Learning Objectives:
• Inspect the most current CDC and AAP guidelines for vaccinating children
•Discuss the most recent findings and implications for influenza vaccines
•Inspect strategies for providers to use with parents who are reluctant or refuse to have their children vaccinated
9:05 a.m. Topic: Childhood ADHD from a Longitudinal Perspective
Speaker: Rachel Dew, M.D., Duke University School of Medicine
Learning Objectives:
• Examine effects of ADHD on motivation, self-esteem, and problem-solving across childhood and into
adulthood
•List psychiatric and medical complications associated with ADHD
•Inspect common treatments for ADHD

Speaker: Michael Tennison, M.D., UNC - Chapel Hill School of Medicine
Learning Objectives:
• Describe the workup indicated for a child with a complaint of headache
•Inspect the newest therapies for pediatric migraine
•Examine the circumstances that indicate a referral to a pediatric neurologist or other specialist
11:20 a.m. Topic: Death by Peanuts: A Practical Primer on the Food Allergies, Anaphylaxis & Asthma
Speaker: Michelle Hernandez, M.D., UNC - Chapel Hill School of Medicine
Learning Objectives:
• Delineate the difference between IgE-mediated and non-IgE-mediated food allergies
•Inspect the indications for food allergy testing
•Identify the manifestations of anaphylaxis
•Recognize the impact of asthma on death from food allergy

Faculty:
Thomas H. Belhorn, M.D., PhD, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine
Dr. Belhorn completed his medical education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed his residency at Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham, AL in pediatrics. Dr. Belhorn completed a fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases at Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Diseases. He is a Professor in Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine.
Rachel E. Dew, M.D., MHSc, Duke University School of Medicine
Dr. Dew completed her medical education at the West Virginia University School of Medicine. She completed her residency at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Dr. Dew completed a fellowship in Religion/Health Research at Duke University. She is board certified in General, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Dew is professionally associated with Duke Health and is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences with Duke University School of Medicine.
Michael B. Tennison, M.D., University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine
Dr. Tennison completed his medical education at Harvard University. He completed his residency in pediatrics at UCLA-Harbor General in Torrance, CA. He completed his residency in neurology and a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine at Chapel Hill. Dr. Tennison is professionally associated with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine and serves as Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics.
Michelle L. Hernandez, M.D., University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine
Dr. Hernandez completed her medical education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She also completed her residency in pediatrics at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She completed an Allergy and Immunology Fellowship at the University of California in San Diego. She is certified in Pediatrics and Allergy and Immunology. Dr. Hernandez is professionally associated with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, and serves as an Associate Professor of Pediatric Allergy, Immunology and Rheumatology at the UNC School of Medicine.
