FirstHealth Fitness – Southern Pines to begin offering posture classes
| Date Posted: 1/7/2019
SOUTHERN PINES – It’s a New Year and with each New Year comes new resolutions. Eating healthier, exercising more and losing weight are among the top three resolutions for Americans each year.
Another popular resolution? Improving health by working on posture.
Why? Studies show that good posture will make you more confident, increase your energy levels and help you manage stress – all traits you need to tackle your resolutions.
Good posture takes strain off your joints and muscles, preventing aches and pains. Long term, poor posture can give you shoulder pain, neck aches, back pain, headaches and even decreased lung function.
If you've put better posture – or even better health – on your list of 2019 resolutions, FirstHealth Fitness in Southern Pines can help you reach your goals with their new posture classes to be offered this year.
Certified Personal Trainer Melissa Massimiani will begin offering small group posture classes in February of 2019. The goal of the class is to help one improve their posture by a tailored, individual exercise program developed by Massimiani.
Massimiani, who has been employed with FirstHealth Fitness since 2004, is an AFAA Certified Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Instructor at the Southern Pines fitness facility.
Additionally, she became a Certified Posture Specialist from the National Posture Institute in 2018.
“As a certified instructor, I am now able to do in-depth assessments on a person’s posture,” says Massimiani. “After a client’s initial assessment, I develop exercise programs to help correct muscle imbalances that are causing poor posture.”
Proper posture is extremely important for one’s health – regardless of their age or gender, she adds.
“No matter what activity you are doing – be it an exercise routine or even working at a desk – posture plays a role in how safely and effectively you can execute those activities,” says Massimiani.
The small group posture classes will be held at FirstHealth Fitness – Southern Pines, located at 205 Davis Road in Southern Pines, on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. throughout the month of February. Initial assessments will be held with Massimiani prior to the four-week class.
