PINEHURST – FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital has once again been ranked as one of the best hospitals in North Carolina by U.S. News & World Report.
In the publications annual Best Hospital’s recognition, Moore Regional was ranked eighth in the state and was recognized as high-performing in several procedures and conditions.
The U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings, now in their 29th year, helps guide patients to hospitals that deliver outstanding care across 25 specialties, procedures and conditions. The Best Hospitals methodologies are based largely or entirely on objective measures such as risk-adjusted survival and readmission rates, volume, patient experience, patient safety and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators. Prominent changes to the 2018-19 rankings methodology included more emphasis on patient outcomes and patient experience measures.
The 2018-19 rankings compared more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide. This year, a total of 158 hospitals were nationally ranked in at least one specialty. More than 1,100 hospitals were rated high performing in at least one common procedure or condition, and 29 received a high performing rating in all nine procedures and conditions evaluated.
Moore Regional achieved the highest rating possible in eight procedures/ conditions including abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, hip replacement, knee replacement and lung cancer surgery.
“We're proud to once again be ranked among the region, state and nation’s best by U.S. News,” says David J. Kilarski, chief executive officer for FirstHealth of the Carolinas. “This distinction is a testament to the collective talent, skills and teamwork of our physicians, nurses, staff and volunteers. We focus each and every day on delivering quality care and exceptional experiences that patients want and expect from FirstHealth.”
As departments of the hospital, both Moore Regional’s Richmond and Hoke campuses are also included in this ranking.
“Our strong rankings across many services should give patients confidence that they will receive exceptional care, close to home, at any FirstHealth facility,” says John F. Krahnert, M.D., FirstHealth’s chief medical officer. “We appreciate the trust and partnership developed with our patients, which allows us to work together to improve their health and wellness.”
For nearly three decades, U.S. News has strived to make hospital quality more transparent to health care consumers nationwide.
"By providing the most comprehensive data available on nearly every hospital across the United States, we give patients, families and physicians information to support their search for the best care across a range of procedures, conditions and specialties,” says Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News.
