FirstHealth Welcomes Physician to Primary Care Practice in Sanford

Addison Zhang, M.D.

SANFORD – Addison Zhang, M.D., an internal medicine physician, will join FirstHealth Primary Care in Sanford when the new clinic opens on FirstHealth’s Lee campus on Oct. 1, 2018.

Dr. Zhang graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin with a B.S. degree in molecular biology and Chinese.

Following undergraduate school, she worked as a lab technician at Duke University for nearly two years before deciding to enter medical school.

“I felt it was time to do something more after college, so I chose to embark on an extremely adventurous journey by moving to Antigua for medical school,” says Dr. Zhang. 

She earned her medical degree from the American University of Antigua’s College of Medicine in Antigua, followed by a three-year internal medicine residency at the Augusta University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership Residency Program in Athens, Georgia before moving to North Carolina. During her residency, she was invited to present several of her research projects at medical organizations including the American College of Physicians and the Society of General Internal Medicine.

“After traveling and living in different parts of the country, my family and I chose North Carolina to make our home,” she adds. “I am very excited to join the FirstHealth family. I chose FirstHealth because of the unique opportunity to work at a brand new facility, as well as the warm and welcoming staff employed at FirstHealth. I feel at home with FirstHealth, which is very important to me. When you feel like you are part of the ‘family’ everything is better – especially patient care.”

Dr. Zhang is looking forward to establishing her new medical ‘home’ at FirstHealth’s new Lee campus in Sanford.

FirstHealth will open its three-story, 40,000-square-foot medical office building and 25,000-square-foot fitness center on Oct. 1. The medical office building will feature several specialties, including both FirstHealth Primary Care and FirstHealth Convenient Care (a convenient option when your doctor is unavailable, unable to make a timely appointment, or when you require medical attention for an acute, but not life-threatening emergency).

“I am looking forward to the opportunity to build this primary care clinic from the ground up,” says Dr. Zhang. “It’s always a joy to ‘see a baby grow.’”

As an internal medicine physician, Dr. Zhang will prevent, diagnose and treat diseases that afflict all adults, from chronically ill patients to short-term care.
