PINEHURST – The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital (Pinehurst), FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital – Richmond (Rockingham), FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital – Hoke (Raeford), FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital (Troy), and FirstHealth Sanford Hematology/Oncology (Sanford) based on results of a recent on-site inspection as part of the CAP’s Accreditation Programs.
The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, as being equal-to or more-stringent-than the government’s own inspection program.
Elise Forest, administrative director of FirstHealth laboratories, was advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the services being provided.
“This recognition is the result of a lot of work by technologists, managers and pathologists,” says Forest. “We are proud to be able to say we are meeting the highest standards in laboratory medicine.”
During the CAP accreditation process, which is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.
“It is an honor for our organization to be recognized by the College of American Pathologists,” says Brian T. Canfield, chief operating officer, FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. “The CAP accreditation validates FirstHealth’s commitment and dedication to ensuring the highest quality for our patients.”
