TROY– Hospitalist Karen Burgoon, FNP, has joined the FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital team.
Burgoon has relocated with her husband from Slippery Rock, PA, and is looking very forward to the outdoor life that Montgomery County is famous for.
“I fell in love with Montgomery County when we came to visit,” she says. “It is such a wonderful community. Plus, we love to trail ride, and there are so many trails here, and the active equestrian community was so appealing to us.”
Choosing to be part of FirstHealth involved both professional and family factors, she says, as her daughter lives in Durham, and it was always her dream for her and her husband to retire in North Carolina. Additionally, being close to where she will work is a major plus for her.
“I will be working and caring for people where I am making my home,” she says. “I have always driven an hour or more to provide services, so this will be a treat for me.”
Burgoon earned her Master of Science in Nursing: Family Nursing Practitioner degree from Clarion –Edinboro-Slippery Rock University in Clarion, PA, where she also received her Bachelor of Science in nursing degree.
Prior to joining FirstHealth, she worked for Apogee Physician Services as a traveling hospitalist. Burgoon also has experience working in pulmonary, critical care and orthopaedics.
FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital President Beth Walker feels Burgoon will be a great asset to Montgomery Memorial.
“While Karen brings extensive hospitalist knowledge to our team, we are extremely excited that she has agreed to work with our Telemedicine program to provide history and physical exams via telemedicine, which will result in a timelier and appropriate treatment of care plans sooner for all patients,” says Walker.
