ASHEBORO – Randolph County residents experiencing problems with chronic back or neck pain will soon have a local medical resource for their condition.
A FirstHealth Back & Neck Pain location will open Tuesday, June 5, at 610 N. Fayetteville Street, Suite 202, in Asheboro. Physician assistant Kondie Lykins, PA-C, will be the provider.
Brian K. Thwaites, M.D., medical director of FirstHealth Back & Neck Pain, feels the expansion of the program will provide an exceptional medical resource to the community.
“We are looking forward to opening our newest back & neck pain clinic in Asheboro,” he says. “Many people struggle with back and neck pain issues. Opening this clinic in Randolph County will assist residents in need of the service closer to home.”
According to Dr. Thwaites, FirstHealth will offer a combination of therapies, including minimally invasive and non-surgical techniques, to stop or reduce severe, persistent pain and keep it under control.
“Our approach to pain therapy will continue to focus on diagnosing the source of pain and creating the best plan for each individual patient,” he adds.
FirstHealth Back & Neck Pain offers diagnostic services for back, neck and knee pain, as well as other types of pain.
“Problems we frequently evaluate and treat include spinal stenosis, bulging or herniated discs, arthritis of facet joints, sacroiliac pain, and other types of spine degeneration,” says Lykins, the physician assistant who will staff the Asheboro Back & Neck Pain office. “We also offer interventional treatments including back and neck injections, knee denervation, and in-clinic joint injections.”
Lykins was originally trained in manufacturing engineering at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He returned to the university setting in 2011 and earned a degree from the Masters of Physician Assistant Program at Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina, in 2015. Lykins is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants.
