ROCKINGHAM – Highlighting its nationally recognized achievements in patient safety and quality, FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital – Richmond (MRH – Richmond) was named a Top Rural Hospital by The Leapfrog Group for the first time. Announced today, The Leapfrog Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive honors American hospitals can receive. The Top Hospital designation is awarded by The Leapfrog Group, an independent hospital watchdog organization.
The Top Hospital Award comes following the hospital’s “A” Hospital Safety Grade, also from The Leapfrog Group.
“The Leapfrog Group’s Top Hospital Award means that MRH - Richmond is one of the safest and highest caliber hospitals in the country,” says John J. Jackson, president of FirstHealth’s Southern Region and administrator of MRH - Richmond. “It gives me great pride to see our staff recognized nationally, and I thank our managers, staff, physicians and volunteers for putting our patients first and making every effort to deliver the highest quality and safest care possible. The great team work exhibited every day drives the quality and patient safety.”
Among thousands of hospitals in the country, MRH – Richmond received a Top Rural Hospital distinction, recognized nationally alongside:

•53 Top Teaching Hospitals
Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors. The rigorous standards are defined in each year’s Top Hospital Methodology.

To qualify for the Top Hospitals distinction, hospitals must submit a Leapfrog Hospital Survey and achieve highest performance in its category.
