FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital Receives Grant from the North Carolina Community Foundation

| Date Posted: 12/28/2018

TROY – FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital has received a grant from the North Carolina Community Foundation to purchase a mobile ultrasound unit for the hospital’s emergency department (ED).

In 2017, Montgomery Memorial saw more than 13,000 patients in their ED. Since the hospital’s imaging ultrasound services are available in-house only during the day, with limited on-call services at night, the hospital’s administration knew there was a need for ultrasound services in the evening.

“We knew we needed to provide these services for patients during both the day and evening considering how many patients we care for in our ED,” says Beth Walker, president of FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital. “Having this mobile ultrasound unit dedicated to the ED for quick diagnostic screenings by the emergency department physicians allows us to continue to deliver high quality health care in our ED.”

The hospital purchased the unit in the fall of 2018. Since, the physicians in Montgomery Memorial Hospital Emergency Department has been able to provide immediate screening results for imaging tests, as well as improved quality care for all patients.

FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital is a critical access hospital located in Troy and is part of the four-hospital system, FirstHealth of the Carolinas.
