MRH - Richmond Once Again Achieves Elite National Recognition from The Leapfrog Group for Straight “A’s” in Patient Safety

ROCKINGHAMFirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital – Richmond (MRH – Richmond) has earned straight “A’s” from the Fall 2018 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades that were announced Nov. 8, 2018 by The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization committed to driving quality, safety and transparency in the United States health care system.

With the Hospital Safety Grades, Leapfrog assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals across the country based on how safe they are for patients.

“MRH – Richmond’s exceptional record for patient safety is reflective of our dedicated medical staff and employees, and best practices of everyone who is employed here at FirstHealth,” says John J. Jackson, president of FirstHealth’s Southern Region and administrator of MRH - Richmond. “We take tremendous pride in the quality care that we deliver to every patient. I can think of no better, more caring, hospital staff. I am extremely appreciative of our department managers for their tireless efforts in helping to achieve this award.”

Out of 172 hospitals in North Carolina, only 34 received the “A” rating, and MRH – Richmond was the only in its region to receive the Fall 2018 “A” rating.

“This recognition is evidence of the dedication of our clinical and quality teams to continuously strive to improve patient safety and clinical quality,” says Christy Land, director of quality at MRH – Richmond. “Delivering safe, high-quality care and the best patient experience possible is what we strive to do each day for our patients.”

Developed under the guidance of a National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign the grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. Of the more than 2,600 hospitals graded, 32 percent earned an "A" grade, 24 percent earned a "B," 37 percent earned a "C," 6 percent earned a "D," and 1 percent earned an "F."

The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

“FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital – Richmond’s success in achieving an A rating is evidence that the organization places an emphasis on protecting patients from preventable medical errors, injuries and infections. We are inspired by their leadership on patient safety,” says Leah Binder, president and chief executive officer of The Leapfrog Group.
