Family Nurse Practitioner Joins FirstHealth Primary Care in Raeford

Jennifer Bowyer, FNP-C

RAEFORD – Jennifer Bowyer, FNP-C, has joined the FirstHealth Primary Care team in Raeford, joining Linda Hughes, M.D.; Andrew LePorte, D.O., and Amy Gaweda, FNP; at the Physician Offices & Specialty Center located on Fayetteville Road.

She brings more than 11 years of experience to the practice, having previously worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital as a nurse. During her time in the NICU, Bowyer was an integral part of the hospital’s Stork Program, and was also an Education Liaison for the NICU and Pediatrics floor for two years. Before becoming a nurse, she was a busy stay-at-home mom to her two children, 19-year-old Juliet and 15-year-old Brandon. Being a mom, and giving birth to her son, is what eventually lead Bowyer to becoming a nurse.

 “My son was born prematurely and had a three-week stay in FirstHealth’s NICU,” she says. “After his stay in the hospital, and three-weeks of watching some of the best nurses, practitioners and doctors in the world in action, I decided that being a nurse was exactly what I wanted to do. I wanted to be to others what those amazing people had been to me.”

Bowyer graduated from Winston Salem State University with a bachelor of science in nursing, and her master of science in nursing – family nurse practitioner also at Winston Salem State University.

She is looking forward to developing long-term, trusting relationships with her patients.

“I chose health care to better the lives of people every single day,” she adds. “I hope that every patient I see leaves me feeling like I really care about them, helped them and took the time to listen to what they had to say.”

Part of Bowyer’s mission will be to focus on educating patients with general health info, as well as encouraging and teaching overall health maintenance and the importance of routine screenings.

“I am excited to join this new team, and continue working for FirstHealth,” says Bowyer. “I truly believe in FirstHealth’s mission ‘to care for people,’ and believe that patient care is the number one priority at FirstHealth.”

A Moore County native, Bowyer resides on the Moore County/ Hoke County line, with her high school sweetheart husband, Brandon, and two children.
