Speaker:
Brian K. Thwaites, M.D.
Dr. Thwaites completed his medical education at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, IL. He completed his internship at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI, and his residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. Dr. Thwaites also completed a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. He is Board Certified in
Anesthesiology. Dr. Thwaites is professionally associated with FirstHealth Back & Neck Pain in Pinehurst.

Program Goal – To cover the topics of:
• Controlled substances prescribing practices
• Controlled substance prescribing for chronic
pain management

Target Audience
All Physicians and Health Care Professionals.

Gap to be Filled:
Lack of knowledge of controlled substances
prescribing practices, recognizing signs
of the abuse or misuse of controlled
substances, and controlled substance
prescribing for chronic pain management.

Goals of this Live Activity:
To prescribe controlled substances,
particularly opioids, in a manner that is safe,
appropriate and consistent with current
standards of care.
