MMH Mammography Program Earns Gold Seal Accreditation

TROY – The mammography program at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital has been awarded a three-year Gold Seal of Accreditation after a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
Representing the highest level of image quality and patient safety, the Gold Seal of Accreditation goes only to facilities that meet ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards during a peer-review evaluation. The board certified physicians and medical physicists conducting the evaluation are experts in the field. Their assessments cover image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.
Survey findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which provides the practice being reviewed with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous improvement.
On Jan. 23, the department underwent its annual MQSA (Mammography Quality Standards Act) facility inspection by the Department of Health and Human Services of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which also resulted in no findings or recommendations.
“Our mammography accreditation demonstrates Montgomery Memorial’s continuous commitment to our patients,” says Pam Duncan, director of Imaging Services. “Patients who have their mammograms here can be assured that they will get high-quality patient care and imaging service.”
The Imaging Services program at Montgomery Memorial Hospital offers both screening and diagnostic mammograms provided by a mammography staff certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Additional services include general diagnostic imaging and CT (available 24/7), bone densitometry, ultrasound, nuclear medicine and weekly mobile MRI availability.
Montgomery Memorial’s mammography staff performed 1,565 mammograms in 2016.
