Surgical Weight-Loss Patients Celebrate Their Success during FirstHealth Event

PINEHURST – Author, coach and motivational speaker Bob Davies believes that making a decision and holding oneself personally accountable for that decision is the best way to meet a goal.
He cites the four “core principles” of living with integrity, interdependence of synergy, accountability and service as key to both personal and professional success.
The author of “The 1.2% Factor – the Science of How the Small Change of Accountability Leads to Large Results,” Davies shared his message with people whose lives have been dramatically changed by surgical weight-loss and follow-up, their relatives and members of FirstHealth’s surgical weight-loss team during the third annual “Celebrate Your Success” event. The program was held Sept. 17 at the Clara McLean House in Pinehurst.
Those attending the event were welcomed by bariatric surgeon David Grantham, M.D., whose remarks were followed by a bariatric-friendly cooking demonstration provided by Special Eats caterer Sueson Vess, who also prepared the evening’s bariatric-friendly meal.
During closing remarks, patient navigator Melissa Herman, R.D., and nurse educator Christi Embler, R.N., presented awards to seven surgical weight-loss patients who have helped promote the program by sharing their personal success stories in public relations testimonials and other efforts. The program’s medical director, Raymond Washington, M.D., was also on hand for the evening and introduced the speaker.
The event concluded with a scrapbook-signing, photos and an opportunity for fellowship.
Herman called the program “a rewarding experience” for all concerned.
“It’s truly a privilege to be a part of each patient’s journey,” she says.
