PINEHURST – Psychiatrist Meredith Stanton, M.D., has a particular interest in adults and children with anxiety and mood disorders, especially PTSD, generalized anxiety and depression.
“I have always enjoyed caring for individuals who struggle with anxiety and depression, because watching their progress and improvement is very fulfilling for me,” she says. “In addition, my husband is active-duty Army, so I have a special place in my heart for treating military personnel, veterans and their dependents.”
Dr. Stanton recently joined FirstHealth Behavioral Health Services, where Administrative Director Mary Silverman was immediately impressed by her skills, her passion for her work and her eagerness to become a part of the Behavioral Health Services team. As Silverman recalls, Dr. Stanton had two questions for her when she decided to join FirstHealth as a staff psychiatrist:
“What do you want me to do” and “Where do I start.”
“Her eagerness to bring her skill and expertise addressing behavioral health needs has been felt by all,” Silverman says. “She has the passion to normalize the need for behavioral health support and to reduce the stigma associated with it.”
A native of Georgia, Dr. Stanton earned a B.S. degree in applied biology from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta and her medical degree from the Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon. She completed her internship and residency in psychiatry at Atlanta’s Emory University School of Medicine.
Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology, she was previously associated with Palmetto Tuomey Healthcare System, Tuomey Healthcare System Senior Life Improvement Program, Sumter Psychiatry Associates and Santee-Wateree Mental Health Center.
“Clearly, Dr. Stanton is a team member who knows her role, has a desire to perform well and exhibits the flexibility and collaboration necessary to take steps to begin her journey with FirstHealth,” Silverman says. “I believe her mission to deliver effective behavioral health services blends well with FirstHealth’s mission ‘to care for people.’”
