Maternal-Fetal Medicine Program at Moore Regional Relocating

PINEHURST – The FirstHealth UNC Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) program, which offers inpatient and outpatient services to patients dealing with high-risk pregnancy, will soon move to another location on the campus of FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
Currently housed inside the hospital within the Women & Children’s Services department, the program will move to the FirstHealth Specialty Centers Building at 35 Memorial Drive, Pinehurst, in July.
“We are excited to be moving to this new space for several reasons,” says Julie Johnson, M.D., of FirstHealth UNC Maternal-Fetal Medicine. “First of all is its location in the FirstHealth Specialty Centers Building with its easy access and convenient, nearby parking. Then there is the office itself, which in addition to providing lots of space for our patients and their families will also house our new, state-of-the-art ultrasound machine – one of the best available. One thing won’t change, however, and that is the personalized, compassionate care that every patient can expect and for which we have come to be recognized.”
Offered in partnership with the University of North Carolina’s Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, FirstHealth UNC Maternal-Fetal Medicine opened in early 2014 as a part-time service, but quickly moved to full-time status as volumes indicated the need for its specialized care. The program offers inpatient and outpatient preconception and prenatal consultations for patients with a variety of complex conditions including high blood pressure, diabetes and autoimmune disorders as well as twins, triplets, preterm labor and previous fetal death.
Available services include amniocentesis, fetal echocardiogram, first trimester screening and chorionic villus sampling, tests that are done early in a pregnancy to detect problems with the unborn baby; state-of-the-art obstetric ultrasound; and other fetal procedures. Genetic counseling is also provided.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.S. degree in biology, Dr. Johnson earned her medical degree from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. She completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Palmetto-Richland Memorial Hospital/University of South Carolina School of Medicine and a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island/the Warren Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University.
She is board certified in obstetrics & gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine.
In addition to Dr. Johnson, the program’s providers include David Stamilio, M.D., and Thomas Ivester, M.D.
