TROY – Montgomery County residents experiencing problems with chronic back or neck pain will soon have a local medical resource for their condition.
A FirstHealth Back & Neck Pain location will open Wednesday, May 4, in Suite 103 of the Medical Arts Building adjacent FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital. Physician assistant Kondie Lykins, PA-C, will be the provider.
Beth Walker, R.N., president of FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, welcomes the program’s addition to the Montgomery County medical community.
“Many residents struggle with back and neck pain issues, and transportation out of the county can be challenging,” she says. “Bringing this outpatient specialty service to Montgomery County makes perfect sense, and we look forward to making it conveniently available to residents of our community.”
According to Brian K. Thwaites, M.D., medical director of FirstHealth Back & Neck Pain, chronic back or neck pain can have many causes and can be difficult to diagnose and treat.
“Sometimes it takes a combination of therapies to stop or reduce severe, persistent pain and keep it under control,” he says. “Our program gives pain sufferers one place where they can go for a thorough evaluation of their problem and access to a variety of pain-relief options.”
Lykins, the physician assistant who will staff the Troy Back & Neck Pain office, was originally trained in manufacturing engineering at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He returned to the university setting in 2011 and earned a degree from the Masters of Physician Assistant Program at Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina, in 2015.
Fluent in Spanish, Lykins is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants. He is married and the father of seven.
