FirstHealth Hosts Annual Pinehurst Medical Symposium

 PINEHURST – Physicians and other health care providers from 11 North Carolina counties and from Tennessee and Canada were in Pinehurst March 5-6 for the 23rd annual Pinehurst Medical Symposium hosted by FirstHealth’s Office of Continuing Medical Education.

 

Throughout the event’s two days, participants took part in educational sessions on technologies and treatments that improve patient care, medical challenges and decisions, clinical excellence, and various other topics of interest to physicians.

 

The program, held in the Conference Center at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, was opened with a welcome by Joseph F. Hakas Jr., M.D., chair of the FirstHealth Medical Education Committee. Michael Bartiss, M.D., a Medical Education Committee member and program planner, moderated the Sunday session.

 

The 12-member faculty represented the specialties of Internal Medicine, Rheumatology, Pathology, Endocrinology, Hematology/Oncology, Pharmacology, Clinical Neuropsychology, Internal Medicine/Pulmonary Disease and Dermatology.

 

Presenters were John C. Moskop, Ph.D., Sunghye Kim, M.D., and Jonathan M. Bishop, M.D., of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine; Nortin D. Hadler, M.D., Sue Kirkman, M.D., and Stephen Moll, M.D., of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine; Megan J. DiFurio, M.D., and M. Wesley Cowell, PharmD, of FirstHealth of the Carolinas; Deepak Voora, M.D., of the Duke University School of Medicine; Michael A. Pritchett, M.D., and Juliann S. Wallner, M.D., of Pinehurst Medical Clinic; and Karen D. Sullivan, Ph.D., Pinehurst Neuropsychology.

 

FirstHealth of the Carolinas is accredited by the North Carolina Medical Society (NCMS) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
