PINEHURST – FirstHealth of the Carolinas today (Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016) welcomed Sandhills Regional Medical Center (SHRMC) in Hamlet, North Carolina, and its affiliates to its health care services network.

The acquisition includes continued employment for substantially all SHRMC employees in good standing at the time of the transaction’s completion.

The acquisition makes SHRMC the fifth hospital campus in a FirstHealth system also comprising FirstHealth Moore Regional in Pinehurst, FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial in Troy, FirstHealth Moore Regional-Hoke Campus in Raeford and FirstHealth Richmond Memorial in Rockingham. Richmond Memorial, which joined FirstHealth in 1999, operates as a division of FirstHealth Moore Regional.

With the acquisition, longtime FirstHealth administrator John Jackson assumes organizational responsibility for SHRMC as its president while continuing to serve in his role as president of Richmond Memorial Hospital.

“It has been a pleasure to get to know the exceptional staff at Sandhills Regional Medical Center these past few weeks,” says Jackson.  “We are excited to welcome these employees to our team to continue to meet the health needs of Richmond County.”

Jackson joined FirstHealth of the Carolinas in May 1998 as vice president of Professional Services for Moore Regional Hospital. When Richmond Memorial joined FirstHealth in October 1999, Jackson was named the hospital’s president. Prior to joining FirstHealth, he was president and CEO of Texas Orthopaedic Hospital and associate administrator and later interim CEO at Presbyterian Orthopaedic Hospital.

Jackson earned a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering from West Virginia University and a Master of Business Administration from Queens University in Charlotte. He has served as chairman of the Richmond County Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the Richmond Community College Health Advisory Board and the United Way Board. He is also a member of the Richmond Community Foundation Board and the Rockingham Rotary Club.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jackson and his family have lived in Richmond County since 1999.

At present, Sandhills Regional and Richmond Memorial will continue to operate under their own name as the FirstHealth and SHRMC administrative teams align operations and systems to increase the effectiveness of health care delivery to better meet the health needs of Richmond County.
