FirstHealth to “Shine a Light” on Lung Cancer with Nov. 2 Vigil

| Date Posted: 10/7/2016

PINEHURST – According to the American Cancer Society, a man has a 1 in 14 chance of developing lung cancer in his lifetime. For women, the risk is 1 in 17.

Both statistics contribute to the fact that more than 430,000 people alive today have been diagnosed with lung cancer at some point.

On Wednesday, Nov. 2, FirstHealth of the Carolinas will join communities throughout the country in hosting the eighth annual “Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil,” an educational event that focuses on lung cancer treatment and support while honoring those who are living with lung cancer or have been lost to the disease.

A partnership with the national Lung Cancer Alliance, the local program will begin at 6 p.m. at the Clara McLean House, 20 FirstVillage Drive, Pinehurst. The evening will include a lighting ceremony that will be held, weather permitting, in the Clara’s House Healing Garden.

In addition to patients who will share their personal stories of lung cancer survival, the program will include music provided by acoustic guitarist Jeremy Robinson and a closing prayer led by Pam Hudson of The Foundation of FirstHealth.

The only national nonprofit dedicated solely to providing support and advocacy for people living with or at risk for lung cancer, the Lung Cancer Alliance works with community partners to create events that help raise awareness, advance early detection and research, support patients and their loved ones, and work toward building governmental support.
