Richmond Memorial to Host 33rd Annual Wellness Screening Day

ROCKINGHAM – A FirstHealth gastroenterologist will focus on the importance of colonoscopies during three educational programs scheduled for Wellness Screening Day at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital.
The 33rd annual event will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, from 8 to 11 a.m. at the hospital.
T.J. Pulliam, M.D., of the FirstHealth Digestive Center, will speak on “Addressing Colon Issues” during educational sessions scheduled for 8:30, 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. In addition to discussing the value of colonoscopy in the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer, Dr. Pulliam will talk about recent medical recommendations concerning colonoscopy as well as the Digestive Health Center’s streamlined “open access” scheduling for colon cancer screenings.
The Wellness Screening Day event will also feature educational sessions on “Kidney Disease and Dialysis” to be presented at 9 and 10 a.m. by Rockingham nephrologist Muhammad Iqbal, M.D.
Supported by a grant from the Rockingham Rotary, the 2015 Wellness Screening Day program will include diagnostic tests and screenings (at free or reduced costs) as well as information on a variety of health care topics. Participants must be 18 years of age or older.
“The physicians, staff and volunteers responsible for Wellness Screening Day are always happy to offer these important services to the residents of Richmond County and surrounding communities,” says John Jackson, president of Richmond Memorial Hospital. “Scheduling an effort of this size obviously requires a great deal of coordination, time and energy, but we are repaid many times over by the numerous health benefits to our community. We always have a great turnout, and I hope this year will set new records for participation.”
During Wellness Screening Day, various health care providers and representatives from a number of community health care agencies will be on hand for consultations or to provide services. The following diagnostic screenings are scheduled:
- Wellness Profile: cholesterol with HDL, LDL and triglycerides; glucose; complete blood count, thyroid profile and more; $25.
- Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), test for detection of prostate infection, disease or cancer: $10.
- EKG, in coordination with Mark Aarons, M.D.; John Flannery, M.D.; and Danny Hall, M.D.: $10
- Spirometry: Richmond Memorial Hospital Cardiopulmonary Department; free
- Diagnostic Results Interpretation from the Wellness Profile: Provided by Steven Millen, ANP; Kimberley Lingler, M.D.; and John Flannery, M.D.
- Urinalysis: Richmond Memorial Hospital Lab; free
- Blood sugar test (glycosylated hemoglobin/A1C): $10

While supplies last, the Richmond Memorial Hospital Pharmacy will provide influenza vaccinations for $10.
