PINEHURST – For the fifth consecutive year, FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital has been recognized as a top-ranked Community Value Provider.
The recognition comes from Cleverley + Associates, a national health care data and consulting firm, which named Moore Regional a Five-Star® Community Value hospital.
“These awards show that Moore Regional’s leadership, quality and value to the community continue to be recognized,” said FirstHealth CEO David J. Kilarski. “We strive to give the communities we serve the highest quality of care while always being mindful that high-quality care also needs to be cost-efficient.”
Cleverley + Associates bases its annual ranking of hospitals on a Community Value Index (CVI) created to provide an assessment of a hospital’s performance in four areas: financial strength and reinvestment, cost of care, pricing and quality. A CVI-based recognition suggests that a hospital provides value to the community when it is financially viable, appropriately reinvests back into the facility, maintains a low-cost structure, has reasonable charges and provides high-quality care to patients.
Measurements in these areas suggest that hospitals with the Community Value designation operate with a high degree of community value and continuously give back to the communities they serve.
In 2014 alone, FirstHealth of the Carolinas provided more than $43 million in community benefit and $12.7 million in charity care for patients unable to pay for services. More than 5,000 employee hours were contributed toward community benefit activities, while 982 volunteers contributed more than 101,782 hours to provide assistance at all FirstHealth hospitals and entities.
The Five-Star recognition places Moore Regional in the top 20 percent of all hospitals in North Carolina for providing exceptional value to the community. The hospital was one of two hospitals in the Sandhills region that received this designation.
“Continued recognition for our hospitals is one more indicator that FirstHealth is a top-performing health system,” says John Krahnert, M.D., Moore Regional’s chief medical officer. “These designations confirm that patients in our communities have no need to travel far for high-quality and affordable care.”
