Alice Romans-Hess, D. Ann Hanna, Elizabeth Sammons and Caryl Peterson (from left), of the Botanical Garden Club, gather the gardening tools and supplies they need to prepare planters for the patios off of patient rooms at FirstHealth Hospice & Palliative Care. Members of the club, which observed its 20th anniversary last year, regularly do community beautification projects while supporting the horticultural works of various area civic organizations. They were assisted in the Hospice project with donations from Imports Exclusive (brown wicker planters) and Eastwood Landscaping (compost for the pots). The geraniums, trailing vinca and Diamond Frost euphorbia they planted were provided by Aberdeen Florist and Garden Center. “The people who come to Hospice House are very ill and are often unable to get to the garden area,” says Romans-Hess, “so we hope the planters on each patio will bring a bit of the peace and beauty of nature to them.”
