FirstHealth Employee Sees Success with Weight-loss Surgery at FirstHealth

Prior to weight-loss surgery, Jamie Waldschmidt suffered from high blood pressure, acid reflux and an overall lack of energy. With the support of her family, she decided it was time to make her health a priority, and she chose weight-loss surgery at FirstHealth. Since the surgery, Jamie's health has drastically improved. Since it began in 1999, the bariatric surgery program at FirstHealth has helped more than 1,700 patients to lose weight and restore active healthy lives.
FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital and Pinehurst Surgical have established a comprehensive Bariatric Surgical Program in Pinehurst, North Carolina. The program offers Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, Sleeve Gastrectomy and adjustable gastric band surgical approaches to significant weight loss and maintenance for those suffering from morbid obesity. The FirstHealth Bariatric Center is staffed by an interdisciplinary team who provide quality education and support, before and after surgery.
Am I a Candidate?
The FirstHealth Bariatric Center follows the National Institutes of Health (NIH) guidelines when considering a patient for bariatric surgery. You are a possible candidate for weight loss surgery if:
Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is 40 or higher (morbid obesity)
OR
Your BMI is between 35-40 and you have obesity co-morbidities, such as high blood pressure or diabetes
AND YOU
Are age 18 or older and have a history of failure to control weight through other methods such as diet and exercise

Attend a free, mandatory Information Session to:
- Learn about the benefits of having bariatric surgery
- Meet the physician and patient navigator

These are required forms for weight-loss surgery. You will receive a folder with the same forms the night of the information session.
To help expedite the pre op scheduling process, you may complete the forms in section one prior to the information session and turn them in that night. Please bring a copy of the front and back of your insurance card to turn in with the forms.
FirstHealth Bariatric Center does not accept Medicaid or Medicare (with the exception of FirstMedicare Direct, a Medicare Advantage plan offered by FirstCarolinaCare).
We accept all other private insurances. Coverage is based on the individual policy.
