FirstHealth Cancer Survivors Day Event Set for June 4

PINEHURST – The FirstHealth of the Carolinas celebration of National Cancer Survivors Day returned toMoore Regional Hospital last year after several years at another venue. Feedback about the change was so positive that the event will be held on the hospital campus again this year.
“Participants in our Survivors Day program on the hospital campus last year really seemed to enjoy the intimate setting and the familiar surroundings, and they welcomed the opportunity to visit with so many of their FirstHealth caregivers,” says Dan R. Barnes, D.O., president of the FirstHealth Physician Group. “We look forward to having them back again this year to celebrate their survivorship.”
The 2015 Cancer Survivors Day program at Moore Regional, the 28th annual such event, will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, in the hospital’s Conference Center at the corner of Highway 211 and Page Road in Pinehurst. Activities will include a Healthy Kitchen demonstration and photo booth as well as a buffet meal.
“Our event honors the survivorship of cancer patients who take pride in their ability to overcome a huge hurdle in their life and to gain motivation from others,” says Margie Thomas,BSRT, (R)(T), clinical director of Moore Regional’s Radiation Oncology department and chair of the FirstHealth Cancer Survivors Day Committee. “The FirstHealth caregivers are especially happy to have the opportunity for this reunion, which gives them living proof of what their professionalism and care have meant to others.”
National Survivors Day is a worldwide celebration of life in which participants unite in a symbolic event to show that a cancer diagnosis can be meaningful and productive. The National Survivors Day Foundation defines a “survivor” as anyone living with a history of cancer from diagnosis through the remainder of life.
