ROCKINGHAM – The FirstHealth Wound Care & Hyperbarics program at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital has been recognized by Healogics Inc. with the Robert A. Warriner III, M.D., Center of Excellence Award for quality standards.
Healogics Inc. is the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services. Out of 155 eligible wound care centers, only 88 received the Warriner award, which is named for a wound care pioneer and former Healogics chief medical officer.
To be named a Center of Excellence award, a wound care program must, among other criteria, achieve patient satisfaction rates greater than 92 percent and a healing rate of at least 91 percent in less than 30 median days for two consecutive years. FirstHealth’s program earned Center of Distinction recognition during the two previous years.
“Our wound care team works very hard to provide the quality care recognized by the Center of Excellence award,” says Jeffrey R. Gibbons, M.D., the program’s medical director. “Our outstanding patient satisfaction scores are noteworthy, because they indicate how much our patients appreciate the care they are receiving, but our healing rates are the true indicators of our program’s success. We are extremely proud of them, just as we are very grateful for the recognition that the Center of Excellence award carries.”
The FirstHealth Wound Care & Hyperbarics program offers specialized care to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds. Advanced treatments include hyperbaric oxygen therapy, negative pressure wound therapy, bio-engineered skin substitutes, biological and biosynthetic dressings and growth factor therapies.
“It’s a great honor to be named a Center of Excellence,” says John Jackson, president of Richmond Memorial Hospital. “We have a great staff that is committed to providing the best of care. This award reflects that dedication and the success indicated by these outstanding wound healing rates and patient satisfaction scores.”
FirstHealth Wound Care & Hyperbarics is a member of the Healogics network of more than 635 centers with access to benchmarking data and proven experience in treating more than 2 million chronic wounds. Headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida, Healogics, along with its affiliated companies, manages more than 600 wound care centers in the nation and, in 2014, saw more than 234,000 patients through a connected network of centers, partner hospitals, academic medical centers, patients and families.
