ROCKINGHAM -- Throughout medical school, William L. Harris, M.D., found the study of physiology, especially the heart and cardiovascular system, especially interesting.

That interest was fueled by his mother’s personal battle with coronary artery disease, a condition that eventually took her life. According to Dr. Harris, that happens to “too many patients at an early age.”

Now a physician with FirstHealth Cardiology, Dr. Harris will speak on “Women & Heart Disease” in the first of the two-part “Just for You” women’s series at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital.

The Tuesday, April 14, program will began at 5:30 p.m. with information about navigating the health care system and accessing personal health information online. Justine Seabolt and Cassina Hunt, of FirstHealth Health Information Management, will lead the discussion; and Dr. Harris’s portion of the program will follow at 6:15 p.m.

Dr. T.J. Pulliam

The second program in the series will be held Tuesday, April 21, at 5:30 p.m. and will feature T.J. Pulliam, M.D. A gastroenterologist with FirstHealth Gastroenterology, Dr. Pulliam will speak on the topic “Colon Cleanse and other commercials: What do they mean?”

Following Dr. Pulliam’s presentation, Heather Buie, director of the Physical Therapy program at Richmond Memorial Hospital, will conduct balance tests for interested program participants.

The “Just for You” Women’s Series is sponsored annually by the FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital Foundation, which supports FirstHealth services for residents of Richmond County. Both upcoming programs will be held in the cafeteria of Richmond Memorial Hospital.

“Richmond Memorial Hospital is always happy to welcome the annual Women’s Series to its campus,” says hospital President John Jackson, “and we are pleased to have quality providers like Drs. Harris and Pulliam practicing in Richmond County. We are also grateful for their willingness to take time from their busy schedules to provide these helpful educational opportunities to our community.”

The “Just for You” Women’s Series is free and open to the public, but registration is required and can be made by calling (800) 213-3284. Refreshments will be provided.
